When I saw former Beatle Pete Best play live at the Granada Theater in Dallas this past summer, I talked to him briefly after the show and got a quip from him for the 77 Quotes found elsewhere on this website. I also got him to sign a drum head to Chris Frantz. I did so because Chris is both a great friend and a big Beatles fan. As a drummer, I knew Chris would be pleased to get a Pete Best autograph in the mail. But I also did so because I felt like I was creating a small bridge between distant worlds.
It was in or about 1957 that Pete first started playing with The Beatles, and 1977 when Talking Heads released their first album, 77. And here I was joining those two entities, in a small way, in 2007. So we have a story that begins in 1957 and stretches 50 years into the future...to 2007. And its amazing to think that both Pete Best and Christopher Frantz are both still around today, sturdy as anvils, vital as ever.
Congratulations to both of these fine and mighty legends.
